Why is Hyperia closed?
As we’re sure you’re aware, Hyperia offically opened with a grand opening ceremony on Friday 24th May. It was a fantastic day, we loved the atmosphere around Fearless Valley and, of course, riding the UK’s tallest, fastest and most weightless rollercoaster. If you haven’t already, make sure you check out all of our opening day content across our social media channels @thorpeguide, and take a look at our Golden Gallery.
Unfortunately, the following day on Saturday 25th May at 09:32, just as many people were queuing for another day of fearless finding, Thorpe Park announced that Hyperia would not be opening.
Later that day, Thorpe Park provided a further update, announcing that Hyperia would remain closed until at least Wednesday 29th May.
Then, on Tuesday 28th May, Thorpe Park provided a further announcement stating that they could not committ to reopening Hyperia before Saturday 8th June (2 weeks since the initial closure!).
After this annoucement, we had a video from Alice taliking about Hyperia’s closure but not revealing anything about whyHyperia was closed.
Many began speculating as to what the issue may be, until parts arrived on-site in Fearless Valley. A crane was erected and SAW – The Ride was shut on Monday 3rd, Tuesday 4th, and Wednesday 5th June as workers used this crane to access the crest of Hyperia’s 236ft lift hill.
Many were optimistic that Hyperia would reopen on Saturday 8th June, until today, Thursday 6th June, when Thorpe Park posted that Hyperia would not in-fact be reopening on Saturday 8th June as previously hoped. In their latest update, they have not provided a revised timeline of when Hyperia may reopen so it is now a waiting game as we await further updates, and reopening day from Thorpe Park.Â
